Squarespace Website Design for
an Interior Designer

Client Overview:

Our client is an experienced interior designer, home renovator, and landscape designer with over 30 years of experience in commercial real estate, managing nationally renowned shopping centers, partnering with key investors, and ‘flipping’ large projects. Since 2019, her career has evolved into a passion for improving residential properties. She has remodeled and redesigned three homes and is completing her degree in Interior Design. She reached out to Solazzo Designs to create a professional portfolio website to help her stand out in a competitive industry. At the time, she was unsure if she wanted to start her own interior design business or join a company in the field.

Objectives:

The goal was to design a user-friendly portfolio website that showcased the client’s interior design skills and experience. The client did not have a specific platform preference but wanted a website that would effectively highlight her work. After our client intake discussions, we discovered that she wanted to be able to make updates to the website herself once the project was completed. Based on this, we chose Squarespace as her ideal website platform because it offers a simple and intuitive interface for clients to manage on their own.

The website needed to serve as a versatile platform—a portfolio if she chose to open her own business or an online visual resume if she decided to join a company in the Interior Design industry. It was essential to communicate the client’s unique design aesthetic and highlight her process “from remodel to redesign”.

Process:

Solazzo Designs conducted in-depth consultations to fully understand the client’s vision, branding needs, and website goals. Based on these discussions, we decided to build a portfolio site that highlighted the three homes the client had remodeled and redesigned as well as develop a cohesive brand and color palette that she could use if she decided to open her own business. Below are two slides from the Sample Color Palette and brand book we developed.

Color palette labeled 'New Color Option 2B' featuring white (#FFFFFF), red-toned cream (#F2E5D3) for background, Symphony Blue (#1F3B5C) for accents, dark blue (#242C32) for dark options, and black (#000000) for body text.
Design concept showcasing 'New Color Option 2B' for Cindy Chong's website with a warm cream background (#F2E5D3) and Symphony Blue accents (#1F3B5C), including sample layouts of property listings and headers.

Key Steps:

  1. Branding Development: We created a cohesive brand identity, including color palettes, fonts, and design elements, to align with the client’s style. Download the Sample Color Palette to view a glimpse of the process.

  2. Portfolio Creation: Collaborated with the client to select the best photographs of her work and curate a portfolio that best represented her design style.

  3. Navigation Optimization: Designed a user-friendly website layout to ensure visitors could easily navigate the site and access information.

  4. Property Pages: Built dedicated pages for each of the three properties, showcasing high-quality images of both interiors and exteriors, along with a detailed overview of the renovation process. The client’s involvement—from concept to creation—was emphasized to demonstrate her comprehensive approach. Serving as a visual portfolio, these pages were integral to the website, demonstrating the client’s design capabilities and attention to detail.

  5. About Page: Designed an "About" page to spotlight Cindy’s extensive 30-year career in interior design. The page included a professional headshot and a compelling bio, positioning her as a thought leader in the industry. It emphasized her experience managing nationally renowned shopping centers, collaborating with key investors, and flipping large-scale projects. This page served a dual purpose: as an online resume showcasing her accomplishments to potential employers and as a persuasive introduction for prospective clients, providing credibility and insight into her expertise.

  6. Services Section: Added pages highlighting services the client offers, including Interior Design, Color Consulting, New Home Assessment, Landscape Design, and Furniture and Finish Selection.

  7. Before and After Section: Included a dedicated section with photos showcasing the properties before her work and after, highlighting her stunning designs and renovations.

  8. Start a Project Form: Created a form where potential customers or leads could easily get in touch with the client to initiate new projects.

  9. Contact Form: Included a contact form to enable potential clients or employers to easily reach out.

Results:

The client was extremely pleased with the final website, which beautifully highlighted her design expertise and distinctive style, setting her apart in a competitive industry. The portfolio website became a valuable tool in her job search, ultimately playing a key role in securing her a position in the interior design field.

“I want to make sure you know everyone that's seen the site has been so very complimentary - my real estate broker today couldn't believe it and basically it was the star of the show at the interview yesterday.”
- Cindy Chong

Conclusion:

Through collaboration, Solazzo Designs created a visually stunning and user-friendly Squarespace website that effectively highlighted the client's skills and experience. The final design not only boosted her confidence, but also played a pivotal role in helping her achieve her professional goals. We are proud to have supported her success and look forward to continuing our relationship in the future.
